Meet Dr. Gerdes
Dr Gerdes has over 30 years of experience in Optometry. He received his optometric degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the third generation of Gerdes’ to practice in Waco since 1923.
Dr Gerdes is actively involved in his profession and has served on several optometric committee boards. He was elected President of the Southwest Contact Lens Society and Heart of Texas Optometric Association. He has authored publications on visual field loss relating to tumors along the visual pathway, lectured on contact lens multi-focal fitting and variety of similar topics. Dr Gerdes has completed research for the FDA in the night-time wear of gas permeable contact lenses.
Dr Gerdes specializes hard-to-fit contact lenses, as well as the treatment and management of cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, dry eyes and macular degeneration.
When he isn’t helping his patients, you will find Dr Gerdes spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, he is an instrument rated pilot and enjoys flying, hunting, fishing, playing golf and gardening.
